Deputy L. T. Smith responded to a pickup truck stuck in a ditch. The driver, Gregory Pitts, 65, of Stafford, exhibited signs of alcohol impairment and refused sobriety tests and a blood sample. A warrant was obtained for a blood draw. Pitts became combative, making racial slurs and threats toward deputies and physically resisting the procedure. He was charged with DUI, refusal to provide a sample, obstruction of justice, and using abusive language toward another person. Pitts was booked without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
