A late-afternoon road rage incident along one of Fredericksburg’s busiest corridors escalated into a crash and a stabbing, according to police.

Fredericksburg officers were called around 5 p.m. on February 27 to the 2200 block of Emancipation Highway for a reported motor vehicle crash. While officers were on the way, dispatchers learned that one of the vehicles involved had left the scene and was heading south, with the other driver following behind.

The situation quickly intensified.

Police say both vehicles eventually stopped in the 3300 block of Emancipation Highway, where the driver of the suspect vehicle rammed the victim’s car multiple times while the victim was still inside. The suspect then got out of her vehicle and stabbed the other driver in the hand with a knife, according to authorities.

Officers arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect without further incident. Police also recovered the knife used in the attack.

The suspect, Alexis Spencer, 28, was taken into custody and is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. She faces several charges, including:

  • Malicious wounding

  • Felony hit and run

  • Assault

  • Aggressive driving

Police provided aid to the victim until emergency medical crews arrived. The victim suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene before being released.

Incidents like this highlight the dangers of road rage, especially on heavily traveled routes like Emancipation Highway, which carries a steady flow of commuter traffic through Fredericksburg each day.

Police have not released additional details about what led to the confrontation between the two drivers.
