Deputies responded to a report of threats connected to an alleged rental property scam on Dover Place Tuesday evening.
Investigators say the victim had been communicating with a suspect about a rental property when they were instructed to send money for a background check. After sending the initial payment, the victim began receiving additional requests for more money.
When the victim refused to send further funds, the suspect allegedly began making threats to kill the victim and their family. The victim told deputies that two different suspects were involved in phone conversations. One of the individuals claimed to work for a real estate company and attempted to arrange an in-person meeting.
Authorities say the victim blocked the suspects on Facebook and WhatsApp. Deputy Edwards advised the victim that the situation appeared to be a scam and recommended not sending any additional funds or meeting with the suspects. The victim was also advised to freeze their bank accounts and closely monitor them for any unauthorized transactions.
