5-Year-Old Seriously Hurt in Fredericksburg Parking Lot Crash

A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured Tuesday after a crash involving pedestrians in a busy shopping area on Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg, police said.

Fredericksburg Police were called to the 1800 block of Carl D. Silver Parkway at 12:03 p.m. on March 24 for what authorities described as a serious crash in a parking lot.

According to police, two vehicles collided and struck two pedestrians who were pushing a shopping cart.

Emergency crews responded quickly in the middle of the lunch-hour rush, in one of Fredericksburg’s busiest commercial corridors.

One adult was treated at the scene and released. Another adult was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The 5-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, though police said those injuries were also not life-threatening.

Police identified the driver as Carole Ann Cecchino-Geiger, 70, of King George. She was issued a summons for reckless driving on private property.

The crash remains under investigation.

The incident happened in a heavily traveled retail area, where parking lots and access roads often stay crowded through the middle of the day. For families in Fredericksburg, it is the kind of crash that hits hard because it happened during an ordinary trip in a place people use every day.
