Deputy Jett responded to a fraud report involving a fake Microsoft alert. The victim called a number from a malware warning and was instructed to send cash through the mail to assist with a supposed investigation.
A second scammer posing as an ICE agent later contacted the victim. Fortunately, the victim’s child recognized inconsistencies, and authorities were able to intercept the packages before delivery. The victim has since taken steps to secure their financial accounts and devices.
