Fredericksburg police are investigating a late-night shooting that rattled a typically quiet stretch of Princess Anne Street early Tuesday morning.
According to a department news release, officers were called around 2:00 a.m. on April 7 after reports of gunfire in the 2600 block. What they found points to an argument that escalated quickly.
Police say a verbal altercation happened just before multiple shots were fired. Bullets struck both a nearby building on Princess Anne Street and an unoccupied vehicle parked along Van Buren Street. Despite the damage, no one was hurt.
Investigators recovered several cartridge casings at the scene and are still working to piece together exactly what happened.
Now, they’re asking for help from the public. Anyone who may have seen something—or who has security camera footage from roughly 1:45 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.—is urged to come forward.
Tips can be shared directly with Detective Lovett or submitted anonymously through the department’s tip line or mobile app.
This kind of incident—gunfire with no reported injuries but clear property damage—raises ongoing concerns about late-night disputes turning dangerous in mixed residential and commercial corridors like Princess Anne Street. It’s an area that’s seen steady activity and growth, making incidents like this especially unsettling for nearby residents and business owners.
Police have not released any suspect information as of now, and the investigation remains active.
