Deputy Wright responded to a report of an intoxicated person on White Oak Road and located the suspect sitting inside a parked vehicle nearby.
According to authorities, the woman displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol. She reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day. Following field sobriety testing and a breath sample, she was taken into custody.
At the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect’s blood alcohol content was reportedly found to be above the legal limit. Deputies also noted that a child was inside the vehicle at the time, leading to additional charges.
Rachael Powell, 33, of Fredericksburg, was charged with driving under the influence and cruelty and injury to children. Powell was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
