A driver was arrested on DUI charges after deputies responded to a crash near Mine Road and Courthouse Road. Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway and entered a wooded area. The driver admitted to drinking earlier in the day and showed signs of impairment. After field sobriety testing and a breath sample, Velvet Smith, 64, of Spotsylvania, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Smith was held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
