A Stafford resident is working to clear fraudulent educational debt after learning someone used their identity to obtain student loans.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the victim received a letter regarding educational debt originating in Louisiana. After contacting the Louisiana Department of Justice, the victim learned an unknown suspect had allegedly used their personal information to enroll in a community college and apply for student loans.
Deputies completed a police report to assist the victim in clearing the fraudulent debt and advised the victim to closely monitor bank accounts and credit reports for any additional suspicious activity.
