A Stafford resident reported becoming the victim of check fraud after a mailed payment was allegedly intercepted and altered.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the victim mailed a check that never reached its intended destination. After contacting the bank, the victim learned the check had been altered and cashed.
The bank has launched an investigation into the fraudulent transaction.
