Police Seek Leads After Vehicle Struck by Gunfire on Sophia Street in Fredericksburg

The Fredericksburg Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that left an unoccupied vehicle damaged in the city’s downtown area.

According to police, the Fredericksburg E-911 Center received reports of gunfire at approximately 2:40 a.m. on June 20 in the 900 block of Sophia Street. Officers responded to the scene and found an unoccupied vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire.

Police said no injuries were reported, and investigators did not find any additional property damage in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing both a white Jeep and a green Jeep in or around the area at the time of the shooting. No further suspect information has been released.

Detectives are continuing to review surveillance video and collect evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. Police are asking anyone with security camera footage recorded between 1:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on June 20, or anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, to contact the Fredericksburg Police Department.
