The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an altered check fraud reported on Cambridge Street.
The victim told deputies they mailed a mortgage payment, but the check never reached its destination. The victim later discovered the check had been altered and cashed by an unknown suspect.
The victim’s bank has opened an investigation.
