The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents after another financial scam targeted a local victim.
The victim received a phone call from someone claiming to represent Navy Federal Credit Union, who falsely stated fraudulent activity had been detected on the account. The caller instructed the victim to transfer money through Cash App to secure the funds.
After completing the transfers, the victim realized it was a scam and contacted the bank. Deputies reminded residents that legitimate financial institutions will never request money transfers through third-party payment applications.
