STAFFORD, VA — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rental scam reported by a victim on Tree Line Drive.
The victim told deputies they found two different rental properties online. After sending money for the first listing, the victim received new information about the area and requested a refund. The refund had not been received when the incident was reported.
The victim then placed a deposit on a second listing but noticed that the leasing documents contained the same signature as the first. After further investigation, the victim determined it was a scam and requested another refund.
No suspects had been identified at the time of the report.
