A Stafford County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle after observing it allegedly failing to maintain its lane near Richmond Highway and Hill Valley Lane.
Police said the driver displayed signs of impairment, including glassy eyes and unsteady balance, and admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the day. Field sobriety tests were administered, and the driver initially refused a breath sample.
The driver was arrested, and authorities said a breath sample later taken at the Sheriff’s Office showed a blood alcohol content above the legal limit.
Erick Cruz-Garcia, 30, of Stafford, was charged with driving under the influence and a traffic lane violation. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.
