A 38-year-old Fredericksburg man is being held without bond after police say he broke into a home, forcibly removed a woman from an upstairs room and struck her in the face with a blunt object early Wednesday morning.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where authorities said she remains in serious condition and is receiving treatment.
The incident began at about 6:24 a.m. Sept. 16, when the E-911 Emergency Communications Center received a report of a seriously injured woman following an assault on Ivanhoe Court.
Police identified the suspect as Jose Caal Choc, 38, of Fredericksburg. Authorities said Caal Choc and the woman are in a relationship and share a home on Roffman Road.
According to investigators, Caal Choc left that residence and walked to a separate home on Ivanhoe Court, where the woman was at the time.
Police allege Caal Choc broke a glass door to get inside, found the woman in an upstairs room and forcibly removed her from the room. He then allegedly struck her in the face with a blunt object.
Authorities said Caal Choc ran from the area after the assault and entered nearby woods.
Officers established a perimeter and began searching the area with a police K9. Caal Choc was located and taken into custody without incident, according to police.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries that authorities said he suffered while breaking into the Ivanhoe Court residence.
Detectives obtained charges of entering a dwelling at night to commit assault, destruction of property, aggravated malicious wounding, abduction, and domestic assault and battery. An emergency protective order was also issued.
Caal Choc is being transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where authorities said he is being held without bond.
The charges are allegations. Caal Choc is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
