The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an altered check that was reportedly cashed after it was mailed for payment.
Deputy Ramos responded to Holly Corner Road after a victim reported mailing a check that was never received by its intended recipient. The victim later reviewed their bank account and discovered the check had allegedly been altered and cashed by an unknown suspect.
The victim contacted their bank, which froze the account.
No suspects had been identified at the time of the Sheriff’s Office report.
