SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A Spotsylvania County man has been arrested after authorities say a threat to deliver an explosive device to an event at a Northern Virginia Muslim community center was posted on Instagram.
Adam Sawyer, 50, of Spotsylvania, was arrested Sept. 19 by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and charged with one count of Threats to Bomb. He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and later released on an unsecured bond.
The arrest followed a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a comment posted on the Instagram page of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the comment indicated that someone intended to deliver an explosive device to an ADAMS Center event.
The investigation brought Loudoun County detectives to the Fredericksburg area.
On Sept. 18, Loudoun detectives, working with Virginia State Police and the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, executed multiple search warrants in the 6800 block of Luce Lane in Spotsylvania County.
Sawyer was arrested the following day.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office also credited the Fairfax County Police Department with assisting in the investigation.
Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged threat or what investigators recovered while executing the search warrants.
The charge against Sawyer is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
