Stafford County deputies are investigating a reported check fraud incident involving a payment that was allegedly altered and cashed by someone other than the intended recipient.
Deputy Floirendo responded to Courthouse Road on October 9 after a resident reported suspicious activity involving a check.
The victim told authorities that a check had been written for payment and later deposited online by the intended recipient.
The victim subsequently received a text message indicating that the same check had been altered and cashed by another individual.
After discovering the suspected fraud, the victim contacted their bank, which locked the account.
No suspects have been identified.
