A Stafford County resident reported a case of check fraud after discovering that a check they had mailed was stolen, altered, and cashed without authorization.
Deputy Jensen of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report on Steeplechase Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim mailed the check and later discovered that someone had altered it and cashed it.
Deputy Jensen advised the victim to notify their bank and request an investigation into the fraudulent transaction.
The sheriff’s report did not identify a suspect or specify the amount of money involved.
