The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an altered check after a resident discovered a mailed payment had been intercepted.
According to deputies, the victim mailed a check to pay bills, but it never reached its destination. The victim later learned the check had been altered and cashed before notifying the bank. A police report was completed as part of the ongoing investigation.
