The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fraud report involving a check that was allegedly altered and cashed after being mailed.
Deputy Pitts responded to Gardenia Drive after the victim reported mailing a check as payment. The intended recipient never received it.
The victim later reviewed their account and discovered that the check had been altered and cashed. The victim contacted their bank, which requested a police report as part of its investigation.
