A Stafford resident fell victim to an Apple-themed scam on Daventry Place late Wednesday morning. Deputy Pitts responded after the victim reported receiving a text message claiming their phone had been hacked by Apple Security.
After calling the number provided in the message, the victim was told there was a balance on their account that needed immediate attention. The suspect instructed the victim to purchase gift cards to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the victim complied and sent the gift card information before realizing it was a scam.
The victim later contacted their bank, which confirmed the fraudulent activity and launched an investigation. Authorities advised the victim to block the suspect’s number and avoid further contact.
