A victim reported a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent Carter Bank & Trust. The suspect alleged the victim’s account had been compromised and attempted to guide them into creating a Bitcoin account.
The situation escalated when the suspect appeared to maintain control over the victim’s phone, intercepting outgoing calls and downloading banking apps remotely.
Deputies instructed the victim to visit their bank immediately and close compromised accounts.
