A Stafford resident fell victim to a sophisticated phone scam that spoofed a legitimate bank’s phone number. The victim received a call claiming there was suspicious activity on her bank account and was advised to move funds to a “temporary card” for protection.
After gaining access to the temporary card, the scammer abruptly ended the call. Deputy C.M. Hidalgo is handling the case. Authorities urge residents to verify unusual banking requests directly with their financial institution and never share card information over the phone.
