Bitcoin Jury Duty Scam Costs Stafford Resident Money

A Stafford resident lost money after falling victim to a jury duty scam involving callers posing as law enforcement officers.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the victim received a phone call from individuals claiming to represent the Waynesboro Police Department. The callers falsely stated the victim had missed jury duty and faced an arrest warrant unless money was withdrawn and transferred through Bitcoin.

After sending the funds, the victim realized it was a scam and contacted authorities. Deputies advised the victim to notify financial institutions and freeze affected accounts.
