Bitcoin Scam Targets Resident with Fake Sheriff’s Office Call

A Stafford resident reported losing money after receiving a fraudulent phone call from individuals pretending to be members of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

The callers falsely claimed the victim had missed court appearances and faced an arrest warrant. They instructed the victim to send Bitcoin payments to avoid arrest before requesting additional money through Cash App. The victim later realized it was a scam.

No suspects have been identified.
