The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office received a fraud report on Ridgeway Road after a resident said a caller posing as a Verizon fraud representative gained access to their account.
Deputy Croson responded after the victim reported receiving a phone call from a suspect who claimed the victim’s account had been compromised. The caller instructed the victim to provide an authorization code received by text message.
After the victim provided the code, the suspect allegedly gained access to the account. The victim later received an email from the legitimate Verizon concerning unauthorized transactions.
The victim contacted their bank and Verizon, and the account was frozen. A police report was requested as part of the investigation.
