A 57-year-old Fredericksburg man was arrested after a Stafford County deputy investigated a suspicious person near a 7-Eleven on Richmond Highway.
Deputy Copeland reported observing signs of impairment, including glassy eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. The suspect allegedly acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier and driving to the store.
After field sobriety tests, the suspect declined to provide a breath sample and was arrested. The Sheriff’s Office reported that a later breath sample showed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
The driver was identified as Luther West Jr., 57, of Fredericksburg. West was charged with driving under the influence and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
