The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of fraudulent checks involving a resident on Courthouse Road.
Deputy Floirendo investigated after the victim received a telephone call from their bank concerning multiple checks that had been cashed using the same check number.
The resident confirmed that the transactions were unauthorized and that the fraudulent checks appeared to have been duplicated from checks previously written by the account holder.
Following the discovery, the bank closed the affected account and advised the victim to file a police report.
The Sheriff’s Office documented the incident as fraud.
