Deputy Kotter responded to a fraud complaint involving an email scam that appeared to come from the Stafford County Planning Commission.
The victim reported that the email contained the official Stafford County seal and requested that money be wired directly to a bank account. The message also included personally identifiable information and referenced specific statements previously made by the victim, making the scam appear legitimate.
The victim immediately notified authorities and other involved parties. The Stafford County Planning and Zoning Department has been alerted about the fraudulent communication. Deputy Kotter requested that the victim forward the email for documentation and investigation purposes. No suspect has been identified.
