Deputy Kotvas responded to a fraud report at the Motel 6 on Warrenton Road on February 18.
The victim reported receiving multiple emails requesting password resets and approval of login attempts before getting confirmation of an iPad purchase. After contacting Apple support, the victim learned that the order had been placed and was scheduled to be delivered to the Motel 6.
The charge was confirmed through the victim’s bank account, though neither the victim nor any authorized cardholder made the purchase. The victim had recently used the card while traveling.
Deputy Kotvas asked motel staff to hold any packages addressed to the victim and notify law enforcement upon arrival. The victim was advised to lock the card and update account information. No suspect has been identified.
