A Fredericksburg man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that shook a small neighborhood market earlier this month.
Just after 3 p.m. on May 15, a masked man walked into the Express Food Mart at 2010 Princess Anne Street, showed a gun, and demanded cash from the clerk. Fredericksburg Police responded quickly, but the suspect had already fled. A police K9 team was called in to track him, but the trail came up cold.
Detectives began their investigation right away, collecting evidence from the scene. By May 28, they had a suspect.
That afternoon, the Fredericksburg Police Department’s Special Equipment Tactical Team (SETT) helped serve a search warrant at the home of 39-year-old Christopher Lee Childs. He was arrested without incident.
Inside the home, police say they found several items tied to the robbery. Childs was taken in for questioning and later charged with attempted robbery, use of a firearm in a felony, brandishing, and wearing a mask to conceal identity.
He’s now being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
