A Stafford resident reported being targeted by multiple scams over several weeks. The callers falsely claimed to represent Pricewaterhouse and the Department of Treasury and convinced the victim to purchase gift cards after alleging the victim’s identity had been used to open fraudulent bank accounts. While the victim provided gift card information, they refused to surrender additional requested items. Deputy Eastman assisted the victim in blocking the suspects’ phone numbers and advised that legitimate government agencies do not request payment through gift cards.
