Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fraud complaint on Kyle Court Tuesday afternoon involving suspected identity theft.
According to authorities, the victim reported receiving emails from a company called Geographical Solutions that included documents related to an unemployment claim and a monetary determination. The victim told deputies they had never filed for unemployment benefits.
After contacting the phone numbers listed in the documents, the victim learned from the D.C. Department of Employment Services that they had likely become a victim of identity theft. Investigators said the account tied to the claim appeared to have been created about a year ago.
At this time, the victim reported that none of their bank accounts or other personal information appeared to be compromised. Deputy Baldi advised the victim to forward copies of the emails and documents so the matter could be investigated further.
