Deputy Pitts responded to a fraud complaint Monday morning on Walker Way involving suspected identity theft.
The victim reported their bank had notified them of fraudulent attempts to open a Target credit card in their name. The bank successfully blocked the account from being opened and issued the victim a new bank card.
Despite this, the victim began receiving text messages and emails from what appeared to be Synchrony Bank requesting payments on an outstanding balance. After contacting the bank listed in the messages, the victim learned there were reportedly three accounts associated with their information.
The victim then notified their legitimate bank of the situation and plans to alert the credit bureaus about the fraudulent activity.
