The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case of identity theft after a resident discovered fraudulent financial accounts opened in their name.
According to deputies, the victim reported that multiple lines of credit and credit cards had been opened without authorization. The victim also discovered unauthorized withdrawals from a bank account.
The victim contacted both the bank and major credit bureaus, which froze the affected accounts. A police report was completed as the investigation continues.
