A Stafford resident fell victim to an elaborate jury duty scam that resulted in stolen funds and personal information.
The victim received multiple phone calls from individuals claiming they had missed federal jury duty and faced arrest. The scammers instructed the victim to pay fines and even impersonated members of the Sheriff’s Office to make the threat more convincing.
During the scheme, the victim was directed to involve their bank and ultimately withdraw funds to convert into Bitcoin. The suspects used this process to gather sensitive banking and personal information.
The scam ended when the victim arrived at the Sheriff’s Office, at which point the suspects ceased communication. Authorities confirmed that none of the names used by the scammers are affiliated with the Sheriff’s Office.
