A 62-year-old Stafford man was arrested following a moped crash near Staffordboro Boulevard and Garrisonville Road.
A deputy responding to the crash found the driver standing near a moped that was on the ground. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver showed signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol, glassy eyes and slurred speech. He reportedly admitted consuming alcohol but declined field sobriety tests and a breath sample.
Deputies found an open bottle of alcohol in the moped’s holding compartment and determined its registration had expired. At the Sheriff’s Office, the driver declined to provide a breath or blood sample.
Samuel Brown, 62, of Stafford, was charged with driving under the influence, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, refusal to test and driving with an expired registration. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.
