Deputy Pitts responded to a reported PayPal scam.
The victim received an email claiming to be from PayPal regarding a fraudulent purchase and was instructed to call a provided number if the charge was unauthorized. After calling, the suspect transferred funds from the victim’s savings account to their checking account and directed the victim to withdraw the money and send it to the suspect’s PayPal account.
When the victim arrived at their bank to withdraw the funds, bank staff identified the situation as a scam and advised the victim not to proceed or respond to further contact attempts.
