A resident was the victim of a sophisticated phone scam involving a caller impersonating a representative from the Wells Fargo Fraud Department. According to Deputy H.H. Cassetta, the scammer convinced the victim that her account had been compromised and instructed her to transfer her funds into a different account — one that the suspect controlled. As a result, the victim’s money was stolen. Authorities are investigating the fraud and urge residents to verify such calls directly with their banks.
