The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fraud case involving a scammer posing as a bank employee.
Deputy O’Neill responded to Crossing Road on June 10 after a resident reported being targeted by a caller claiming to work for the PNC Bank Fraud Department. According to the victim, the caller stated that their account had been compromised and instructed them to transfer funds to another account for protection.
After the transfers were completed, the suspect ceased all communication. The victim subsequently contacted their bank and provided records of the transactions to investigators.
The investigation remains ongoing.
