Deputies are investigating a scam in which a resident was convinced to send money to someone posing as a representative of the Social Security Administration.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller falsely claimed the victim’s identity had been stolen and instructed the victim to secure their money by transferring funds to fraudulent accounts. After the victim sent the money, the bank froze the account.
The investigation remains ongoing.
