A suspected shoplifter was arrested Thursday evening after being detained by store employees at the Target on South Gateway Drive.
Deputy Baldi responded to the store after the Loss Prevention team reported they had a suspect held in their office. The individual had allegedly taken action figures and concealed them in a backpack that had also been stolen from the same store earlier.
When deputies made contact, the suspect initially provided a false identity before eventually giving his correct information. Investigators later determined the same individual had also stolen beverages from a nearby Wawa.
The suspect was identified as Jayden Powers, 18, of Fredericksburg.
Powers was charged with concealment of merchandise and falsely identifying himself to law enforcement. He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held on a secured bond.
All stolen items were recovered and returned to the businesses.
