Stafford Man Sentenced to Decade in Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking

RICHMOND, Va. – A Stafford County man, Dwaine Tyrone Jones Jr., 27, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, following a significant drug bust that highlights the ongoing battle against opioid distribution in Virginia.

Court documents reveal that the case began on October 2, 2023, when the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office intercepted a parcel containing 16,245 counterfeit oxycodone pills. The pills, marked with “M30,” were later found to contain fentanyl—a potent synthetic opioid often involved in overdose deaths.

The investigation continued on October 17, 2023, when law enforcement agents executed a search warrant at the residence of Jones, where he lived with his girlfriend and her parents. The search yielded a large quantity of illegal substances, including approximately 20,240 fentanyl-laced pills, 40.5 grams of cocaine, a half-pound of marijuana, and a loaded 9mm handgun. Authorities also seized $47,770 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking activities.

The total weight of the fentanyl pills recovered from the residence was 2,137.04 grams, making this one of the larger fentanyl seizures in recent memory for the area.

This case underscores the dangers posed by the illegal distribution of fentanyl, which has been a significant contributor to the opioid crisis in Virginia and across the nation. The sentence handed down to Jones reflects the seriousness of the charges and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution of this deadly drug.
