Last Tuesday, June 20th, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a homeowner in the 1200 block of Caroline Street smelled smoke and discovered a t-shirt set on fire was forced into his front door’s mail slot. The resident extinguished the fire and called the E-911 Communications Center to report the arson. The Fredericksburg Fire Department and Fredericksburg Police Department responded to investigate. Fire Marshal Crisp led the investigation and identified the suspect as Ariel Richardson. On Friday, June 23rd, the Fredericksburg Police Department arrested Richardson for burning an occupied dwelling. Richardson is currently at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
