A man accused of sexually assaulting two women at massage businesses in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County has been captured following a vehicle pursuit, authorities announced.
Cesar Mario Torres Juarez, 30, of Spotsylvania, was taken into custody on the morning of Sept. 4 after deputies with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office pursued his vehicle through the county.
According to authorities, the pursuit began near Courthouse Road and Brock Road and ended near Brock Road and Gordon Road, where deputies stopped the vehicle. Torres Juarez was the only person inside and was taken into custody without further incident.
The Sheriff’s Office said it is seeking additional charges stemming from the pursuit.
Torres Juarez had been wanted in connection with two sexual assaults reported nearly six months apart, one in Spotsylvania County and another in the City of Fredericksburg.
The first case was reported March 12. A woman told the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office that she was forcibly raped while working at a massage therapy business in the 5000 block of Plank Road. Detectives collected physical and photographic evidence and later released information to the public seeking help identifying a suspect.
Then, on Aug. 31, Fredericksburg’s E-911 Center received a report of a similar attack at a massage and wellness spa in the 2100 block of Plank Road. The woman in that case also reported being forcibly raped while at work.
Witness information helped Fredericksburg investigators develop a suspect. Detectives noticed similarities between that suspect and the person described in the earlier Spotsylvania case and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators from the two agencies began working together and concluded the cases were connected based on similarities in the suspect descriptions and the types of businesses targeted.
Police identified Torres Juarez as the suspect in both cases through their investigation and witness interviews.
In Fredericksburg, Torres Juarez faces charges of rape, forcible sodomy, object sexual penetration, abduction with intent to defile and strangulation.
In Spotsylvania County, he faces charges of rape, abduction by force and assault and battery.
The Fredericksburg Police Department and Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office credited cooperation between investigators and information from the public with helping locate Torres Juarez.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The charges against Torres Juarez are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
