Deputy Kotvas and Deputy Helbling responded to a DUI complaint and minor crash Thursday morning at Affordable Suites of America on University Boulevard.
A victim reported their wheelbarrow had been struck by a vehicle driven by the suspect and believed the driver appeared intoxicated. The suspect told deputies they had parked the vehicle before consuming alcohol and checking on the victim.
Deputies noted the suspect had not entered their residence before law enforcement arrived and observed signs of impairment including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol. An open bottle of alcohol was also located inside the vehicle.
After failing field sobriety testing, the suspect was arrested. Jose Sandoval Castaneda, 28, of Longwood, was charged with felonious driving under the influence and drinking while operating a motor vehicle. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
