Fredericksburg, VA – A tense situation unfolded in Fredericksburg early Wednesday morning, leading to the arrest of a Woodbridge man after he allegedly forced his way into an apartment, assaulted a woman, and abducted their two-year-old son. The incident occurred in the 2400 block of Cowan Boulevard, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, the distress call was made around 7:00 a.m., reporting a physical altercation. Patrol Officer D. Smith was dispatched to the scene, where he interviewed the female victim. She recounted a harrowing ordeal beginning at 4:30 a.m., during which the father of her child, identified as 25-year-old Jerell Blakey Jr., allegedly entered her apartment by force, held her at gunpoint, and physically assaulted her before leaving with their son.
In response, patrol officers canvassed the area while coordinating with surrounding jurisdictions to locate Blakey and the child. Detectives Mejia and Wright took the lead on the investigation, working closely with the Virginia State Police to track down the suspect.
Their efforts culminated around 4:00 p.m. when Blakey’s vehicle was spotted in the 600 block of Greystone Court in Fredericksburg. Blakey was arrested without incident, and the child was found unharmed inside an apartment and promptly returned to his mother.
Jerell Blakey Jr. now faces multiple charges, including burglary, two counts of abduction, domestic assault, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, brandishing a firearm, and unlawful interference with emergency radio transmission. He is currently being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The successful resolution of this case was aided by the Virginia State Police Drug Task Force special agents, whose assistance was crucial in apprehending the suspect.
