Authorities are investigating a sophisticated fraud scheme targeting a Stafford County resident.
Deputies responded to a report involving a scammer posing as a bank representative claiming there were unauthorized transactions on the victim’s account. The suspect convinced the victim to transfer money through CashApp and provide personal photos under the guise of an investigation.
The victim also shared their phone screen remotely, giving the suspect further access.
In an alarming development, the suspect arranged transportation to take the victim to their bank to withdraw additional funds. A vehicle arrived at the residence but left after the victim refused to go.
Family members later intervened, contacted the bank to freeze the compromised accounts, and advised the victim to report the incident to police.
Authorities have urged the victim to reset their phone, change passwords, and closely monitor financial activity as the investigation continues.
